There are many margarita recipes–This one in my opinion is the best!
Pure Mexican Margarita–simple and delicious!
Prepare with equal parts-Use any size shot glass, just use the same amount or size for everything. I use 1 oz of each for a short Margarita glass and I use 2 oz of each ingredient for a tall Margarita glass.
Here is how I make it–This came from an old Mexican bartender in Playa del Carmen, Mexico at a resort I was staying at :
1 Part of Good Blanco Tequila such as Don Julio. There are others but these are really good.
1 Part of fresh squeezed lime juice. Not bottled.
1 Part of simple syrup. Homemade, not bottled. To make Simple syrup pour equal part of sugar and water into a pan heat the water, stir until dissolved and you have simple syrup- IMPORTANT–do not buy simple syrup or agave syrup to use in these drinks as they taste terrible compared to home-made simple syrup.
That is easy-just equal parts of any size you desire.
Now:
Mix with crushed ice, shake it up and serve with a lime wedge and a little margarita salt. It is Awesome. In Mexico they tell me the original way to make a good margarita is to keep it simple. It is fresh, a little tart and simply awesome!
A good margarita needs to be presented correctly. Use a slice of fresh lime to moisten the rim of a glass, dip the rim lightly in margarita salt, then pour in the margarita that you just blended into the glass. Squeeze the rest of the lime wedge on the top~do not stir~let the lime juice lay on top, and serve.
Margaritas–Life is too short-drink good tequila! |
There are more than one way to arrive at a good margarita. Below is a few different recipes. Making a margarita is like making chili or spaghetti sauce. There are a large number of different recipes and people have different tastes so what you find appealing to you may not be so appealing to another. What you do is experiment with different amounts of ingredients until you get what pleases you and then make it consistent with each serve. It is important to know your Tequila. Did you know there are at least 5 types. Blanco (Silver), Joven (Gold), Reposado (Aged), Añejo (Extra aged) and Extra Añejo (Ultra-aged). Tequila that is 100% de Agave is made with only the sugars of the Weber blue agave and Tequila, commonly called Mixted (Mixto) which is made using 51% agave sugars and 49% other sugars. Each of the tequila types has distinct characteristics. To do Tequila shots try this: First, grin and bear it. Dig into your wallet and buy a bottle of the good stuff. Place your bottle of Don Julio or Patron tequila in the freezer and leave it there until ready to use. (Don Julio has no aftertaste, Patron has a little lingering aftertaste) The older the tequila, the better. I a not talking about how long you have had it, I am talking about how long it has been aged, as in Reposado or Anejo. The tequila will become syrup-like in texture in the freezer. Get your shot glass ready, salt the back of the hand, get the lime ready and now drink, lick and squeeze. After drinking Don Julio or Patron, you will find the others taste like kerosene. It is worth the price to have the really GOOD stuff. If you want to make your own, use only the best. Cheap liquor will make your drink taste like cheap liquor was used. To make a Jug of mild in cheap margaritas from scratch: 13 oz of Whisky Sour Mix–Do not use Sweet and Sour Mix in this recipe. 2 oz of Lime Juice (I use Angostura Brand from ABC) The Roses Lime leaves a little bit of a bitter taste. 2 oz of Triple Sec 6 oz of good Tequila 1/4 oz of Midori, just enough to turn it a nice light green and give it a little sweet taste, while removing the bitterness. (I like to add a cap full to float on the top of individual drinks). Place all ingredients in a large pitcher, add ice to the pitcher until it is 1/2 full of ice and shake it up. Prepare salt rimmed glass, and add mixture. Top off with a squeeze of a fresh slice of lime, then drop the squeezed lime wedge into the drink. Stand back, admire your creation, then drink it. Now, if you want a good cheap margarita that uses Jose Quervo. this is a simple margarita that tastes the same every time and is easy to make try this with Jose Quervo Mix. I give this 5 stars for ease less for taste. Punch Bowl size using the bottled Quervo Margarita Mix–This is a great party drink and EASY to make!!! This earns 4 stars *****If you are doing a punch bowl of margaritas for on-the-rocks, just put in three large bottles of Jose Quervo margarita mix, one bottle of Quervo gold tequila, and 16-20 oz of water. Perfect every time. Serve over ice with the salt and lime on the rim. To make a frozen margarita with Jose Quervo Margarita Mix In a blender 3/4 full of ice place the following: 1) Three Parts of Jose Quervo Margarita Mix 2) One part of Alcohol made up of 3/4 Jose Quervo Tequila and 1/4 Triple Sec (any brand) with a very small splash of Midori, (the green stuff) The container of alcohol should be a light green after adding the Midori. The purpose of the Triple Sec is to serve as a sweetener, the Midori does the same but tweaks the flavor by adding a little melon to the lime taste. If you want a Blue Margarita, leave out the Midori and replace at least 1/2 of the Triple Sec with Blue Curacao (like Triple Sec, it is an orange liqueur). This should give you enough blue, however If it is not blue enough, put in more Blue Curacao. Blend until it is rich and creamy!!!!! From Quervo.com Ingredients: 1 oz. Jose Cuervo Tradicional® 2 oz. freshly squeezed lime juice 1/2 oz.
