My Personal Homemade Hot Wing Sauce
Ingredients: | Hot Wing Sauce (Sweet) 2-12oz bottles of Crystal Hot Sauce 3-Heaping tablespoons of butter~about 3 oz (it helps make the sauce stick to the meat) 6 oz (about 1-Cup) of Kraft Original BBQ sauce or Cattleman’s Original BBQ sauce. (Do not use smoke flavor) (Add more BBQ sauce to add more flavor) 4 oz of Ketchup ~ any brand 3-Heaping tablespoons of Honey ~orange blossom is best~ (IMO) 1-Heaping tablespoon of sugar This makes enough to cover about 20 lbs of wings very liberally. If you can obtain Crystal Hot Wing Sauce, An easier recipe is the following: 3 parts Crystal Hot Wing Sauce 1 part Crystal Hot Sauce 1/2 part BBQ Sauce of the brands named below 2 large tablespoons of honey 1 tablespoon of sugar |
Directions: | Add all ingredients except lime to a saucepan. Stir and heat slowly until it starts to boil. Reduce heat and simmer at least 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Test flavor and add a little more of BBQ sauce or hot sauce to suit your taste. Remove from heat and cool. (It’s better after refrigerating overnight. The sugar thickens it up and really makes it stick to the wings). Cook up 5 or 10 lbs. of chicken wings till well done, preferable on a grill, although some like them broiled and some like them fried. I like them cooked well on the grill with all the fat gone. Add the sauce liberally to the wings. Serve. |
Notes: | This was developed by trial and error after failing to find a sauce I liked. Prep Time about 10 minutes~Cooking time about 5 minutes You can substitute honey or brown sugar for the white sugar. This will cover 10 lbs of wings. Serves a small group of hungry friends. Kraft, Sonnys BBQ sauce or Cattlemen Original BBQ sauce works very nicely! Cattlemen should be the first choice. |
